April 20th, New Zealand Day 5

These are the photos I took on my fifth day in New Zealand, which was my tour of various The Lord of the Rings sites around Queenstown.

This is a photo of Queenstown as seen from about 3/4 of the way up the Remarkables. Behind me and over the peaks, scenes with Aragorn running across some shallow rivers, known as the Dimrill Dale, were filmed. Posted by Hello

This is Deer Park Heights where several scenes for "The Lord of the Rings" were filmed. Queenstown is to the right of this photo. Posted by Hello

This is where the Argonath, the 2 large statues on the Anduin River were filmed, and I suspect the river you see when Aragorn went over the side. From what the guide told us, we would be looking at the backs of the statues from this vantage point. Posted by Hello

This is a better shot of the Kawarau River Bridge. Posted by Hello

This is the Dart River on which the face off between Arwen and the Nazgul at the Fords of Bruinen was filmed. This particular site was used as one of the backgrounds for the chase scene. Posted by Hello

This is the landscape near Coronet Peak, a famous skiing area near Queenstown. Posted by Hello

This mount by Coronet Peak had what I thought was an interesting form. Posted by Hello

This is a very interesting mount I noticed by Coronet Peak. Posted by Hello

This is a deep valley near Coronet Peak. Posted by Hello

This is Lighthouse Rock, beside Coronet Peak. Posted by Hello

This is an interesting house I saw in Frankton, a suburb of Queenstown, after my aborted attempt to summit Deer Park Heights. Posted by Hello

This lion sculpture made of ice was inside the Minus 5 bar. It is very reminiscent of Winterlude and perhaps an ice bar would not be such a bad idea for the festival. Posted by Hello

This was a couch at Minus 5 made completely of ice and covered with animal skins. The woman on the left was from Denmark, and the guy on the left was from the U.K. Posted by Hello

This was what the bar looked like at Minus 5. As you may have guessed, the sponsoring alcohol was Smirnoff Ice. Posted by Hello

This is the tour group inside the ice bar. I used a flash to take this picture. Posted by Hello

This is picture, taken a few seconds after the first one, shows the light level in the ice bar as it really was. Posted by Hello

This was a bench inside the ice bar covered with what I think were deer skins. Posted by Hello

This is a flower pot made of ice. The guy on the right was a German tourist on the tour. Posted by Hello
